Appreciation Prompts: Five Ways to Say It
Pick one category a week and answer it out loud to each other. Here is how we group them, with an example for each.
Past
"Something you did early on that I still remember..." Looking back reminds you why you chose each other.
Present
"Something you did this week that I noticed..." Specific lands. "Thanks for handling pickup when my meeting ran over" beats "thanks for everything."
Future
"Something I'm looking forward to with you..." It puts hope on the calendar.
Emotional
"The way you make me feel safe is..." Name the quality, not just the task.
Physical
"What I love about the way we touch is..." Affection, said kindly and in the positive.
It might feel awkward the first time. Do it anyway. Awkward and sincere beats smooth and unspoken.

Sarah-Gayle holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific, and works here as a coach, not a clinician. I'm an ordained minister. We've been married more than twenty years and have coached thousands of couples.
