The early years of a relationship are full of change. New jobs, new schedules, school, money, families, and a lot of figuring out who you are together. Couples who are dating, engaged or newly married often ask the same question: how do we build this right from the start?
The strongest answer we know isn't a tool. It's a mindset. When a hard moment hits, the question is whether you look at your spouse or at yourself first.
That's personal responsibility, and it has three parts.
Personal Responsibility: The 3 A's
We call this the load-bearing mindset. Everything else we teach stands on it.
Attitude
The posture you bring into the room. Humble, curious, on the same team. It sets the tone before you say a word.
Application
Actually doing the work. Using the tools, practicing them, and not waiting until the next crisis.
Accountability
Owning your part without excuses, and being open to someone further down the road helping you stay on track.
Focus on your own growth, not your spouse's. When both of you commit to that independently, breakthrough comes. Avoid the "I'll do it if they do" trap.

What This Looks Like With Us
Start strong
Dating, engaged or married, we help you build habits early, so they carry you through every season.
Both of you, every time
We don't offer individual sessions. Each of you owns your own side, and both of you grow at the same time. Nobody is the project.
Coached by someone who's been there
You'll work with Sarah-Gayle or me, matched on your consultation. Sarah-Gayle holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific, and works here as a coach, not a clinician. I'm an ordained minister. We've been married more than twenty years and have coached thousands of couples.
Questions Couples Ask
How far is your office from Mesa Community College?

We're engaged and things are fine. Why start now?
Because the best time to learn these skills is before you need them. Couples who build communication and repair habits early face the hard seasons with tools in hand.
What does personal responsibility mean in practice?
It means asking what you can control and acting on that first. Your attitude, how you apply the tools, and owning your part. It removes the blame game, and it's the quickest way to change a marriage.
