Hope Relentless

Marriage Counselor Near Papago Park in Phoenix

Conversations where both of you know your job. One of you speaks, one of you listens, and nothing gets dropped in the handoff. A cleaner way through hard topics. We coach you together at our Chandler office, about 17 minutes from Papago Park, or online.

30 minutes, free, no obligation. Both of you on the call.

Short answer: our office is at 3075 W Ray Rd #200 in Chandler, at Loop 101 and Ray Road. From Papago Park in Phoenix it's about 17 minutes. We coach couples together, and it starts with a free 30-minute consultation.

Papago Park is a municipal park shared by Phoenix and Tempe, known for Hole-in-the-Rock, the Desert Botanical Garden and the Phoenix Zoo. People come to walk the red buttes and to see them from the trail.

Hard conversations in a marriage often go sideways because nobody is sure whose turn it is. Both people are talking, or both are bracing. Think of a college relay: the race is often won or lost on the baton handoff. We teach couples to make the handoff clear.

Passing the Baton: Who Speaks, Who Listens

Four moves that give a hard conversation a clear shape.

Passing the Baton Speaker Listener One thing, short Reflect, then swap 1 Name the roles 2 Share one thing 3 Reflect it back 4 Swap roles

Download the one-page worksheet (PDF) and fill it in together.

1

Name the speaker and the listener

Before you start, decide who is speaking first and who is listening. Say it out loud.

2

Speaker: say one thing

Keep it to a single topic and a short share. Skip the history and the pile-on.

3

Listener: hold the baton

Reflect back what you heard, in your own words. Hold your response until the speaker feels understood.

4

Hand it over

Swap roles. Now the listener becomes the speaker, and the handoff happens on purpose.

The first few tries will feel stiff. That is okay. Clear roles make hard conversations safer.

What This Looks Like With Us

A tool to use tonight

Each session ends with one practical step to take at home. You practice it between sessions, then we refine it together.

No sides, no scorekeeping

We don't take sides, and we don't offer individual work. Both of you show up, and both of you own your part.

Real coaches, real marriage

You'll be matched with Sarah-Gayle or me on your consultation. Sarah-Gayle holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific, and works here as a coach, not a clinician. I'm an ordained minister. We've been married more than twenty years and have coached thousands of couples.

Coaching, not therapy. We don't diagnose, we don't treat mental health conditions, and we don't bill insurance. Both partners come to every session, and we don't offer individual work. If what you need is licensed clinical care, we'll tell you and help you find it.

Questions Couples Ask

How far is your office from Papago Park?

About 17 minutes by car, 10.6 miles, based on Google Maps' pin for the park. The fastest route runs along AZ-101 Loop S. Our office is at 3075 W Ray Rd #200 in Chandler, not in Phoenix. We also meet online.

Who should speak first?

Whoever has something they want to raise, if the other person is ready to listen. If both of you have something, flip a coin or take turns by topic. What matters is that you agree before you start.

What if the listener keeps interrupting?

It is common and fixable. We practice with you in session, so the listener learns to hold the response and the speaker learns to share in short pieces. It gets easier with repetition.

Make the Handoff Clean

Thirty minutes, free, both of you on the call. We'll tell you honestly whether we're the right fit.
