What Changes at Home

Short answer: the same fight stops running on a loop, you get back to each other faster when it does happen, and praying together stops feeling awkward.

Most couples who call us are not in crisis. They are tired. They love God, they love each other, and somewhere in the last few years the conversations got shorter and the silences got longer. They can run a household, get three kids to three different fields on a Saturday, and serve faithfully at church, and still feel like two people who share a mortgage and a calendar.

Here is what tends to be different a few months in.

The same argument stops repeating

Most couples are not having twenty different fights. They are having one fight in twenty outfits. Once you can name the cycle you are both standing in, you can step out of it, and you can do it without anybody having to lose.

Repair gets faster

Conflict does not disappear, in any marriage, and any page that promises you that is selling something. What changes is how long it takes to come back to each other. Days become hours. Hours become minutes.

Decisions get made together

Not one of you quietly giving in at eleven at night and resenting it by Thursday. Actual agreement, with the details worked out well enough that it survives contact with a real week.

Faith moves from parallel to shared

A lot of Christian couples believe the same things and practice them alone. Praying out loud together is one of the most exposed things a married couple can do, which is exactly why so few do it. It gets easier with reps, and that is what spiritual intimacy for couples is really about.

We won't promise you results. What we can tell you is what you walk away holding: a process for having a hard conversation, practiced on your own real issues, with somebody correcting you in the moment.

What We Mean When We Say Christian

Short answer: the tools are the same ones we teach every couple. What is different is the foundation underneath them, and the fact that you do not have to translate.

I want to be straight with you here, because I think a lot of Christian marriage counseling pages are deliberately vague about this.

We do not run a separate program for Christian couples. The frameworks are identical. The Communication Loop we teach you is the same Communication Loop we teach everybody, because it works the way it works regardless of what you believe on a Sunday.

What is actually different is three things.

The difference, specifically

1

You don't have to translate

When you say your marriage is a covenant and not a contract, nobody needs that explained. When you want to work out what sacrifice and submission actually look like on a Tuesday night with a sink full of dishes, that is a normal conversation here rather than a detour.

2

The foundation is different

We start from the conviction that this marriage is worth saving and that God is in the business of restoring things. That is not a technique. It shapes how hard we push, what we are willing to say to you, and why we do not give up on couples easily.

3

Prayer is on the table

We can pray with you. We can help you learn to pray together, which most couples find harder than they expect it to be. That is its own piece of work and we go deeper into it under spiritual intimacy for couples. If it is not what you want right now, we will not force it.

You set how much faith is in the room. Some couples want scripture in every session. Some want a Christian coach and otherwise practical work. Both are completely fine, and we will ask you on the consultation.

Why we start with your words

Proverbs says that life and death are in the power of the tongue. That is not a poetic flourish to us. It is the most practical verse in the Bible for a marriage. The words the two of you use in a ten minute conversation on a Wednesday night either deposit something into your marriage or withdraw from it. Nothing neutral happens.

So we start where the damage is actually occurring. Not with your childhood, not with a personality assessment, but with how the two of you talk to each other when something matters. The process we teach for that is the Communication Loop, and it is the same one every couple here learns.

How this runs

How the Work Actually Goes

You start with a free 30-minute consultation. We ask what has been going on, you ask us anything you want, and we give you an honest read on whether coaching fits. Nobody signs anything on that call.

From there, the path for a Gilbert couple looks like this.

1

The consultation

Thirty minutes, both of you, no cost. This is also where we ask how much faith you want in the room, so nobody is guessing later.

2

The 12-Week Couples Reset

Twelve weekly sessions, both of you every session, online or at the Chandler office. This is where the real rebuilding happens, and it is what most Gilbert couples do.

3

The week in between

The session is where you learn the move. The week is where it becomes yours. There is homework, it is small, and it is the part that decides whether any of this sticks.

Every format has a defined length. You know going in how long it runs and what you walk away with, instead of an appointment that continues indefinitely. We also run two-hour workshops and two-day intensives, and those happen in person at the Chandler office. If one of those is a better fit for you than twelve weeks, we will say so on the call.

Both of you, every session. We do not offer individual work, and that is not a scheduling preference. What we are teaching is something the two of you do together, so we need both of you learning it at the same time.

Coaching, Not Counseling

Short answer: we are a coaching practice. We do not diagnose, we do not treat mental health conditions, and we do not bill insurance. If therapy is what you need, we will tell you.

Counseling and therapy are clinical care. A licensed therapist can diagnose and treat conditions like depression, anxiety, and trauma, and often works with the past in order to do it. Coaching is teaching and practice. We hand you a process, watch you use it on your own real issues, and correct you in the moment.

Neither one is more serious than the other. The difference is what the hour is for.

Sarah-Gayle holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific, and she works here as a coach rather than a clinician. Chad is an ordained minister. We are direct about that distinction because you deserve to know exactly what you are buying.

Hope Relentless is a coaching practice. We are not licensed therapists, we do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions, and coaching is not a substitute for professional counseling or therapy.

Why Nothing Goes in a File

This part matters more in a town like Gilbert than people usually admit out loud, so I am going to say it plainly.

To bill insurance, a therapist has to put a diagnosis on somebody. That is how the system works, it is entirely legitimate, and the record it creates is protected. But it is still a record, attached to one of you, sitting in a file.

Coaching does not create one. We are private pay. No diagnosis, no billing code, no claim submitted anywhere, because there is nothing here to diagnose. Neither of you is a patient. Nothing about your marriage becomes part of a medical history.

A married couple walking together and holding hands on a quiet neighborhood street at dusk in Gilbert, Arizona

For a lot of couples here that is the deciding factor, and it usually has nothing to do with shame. Gilbert is a town where your small group, your kids' school, and the family two doors down are frequently the same forty people. Serving in ministry, teaching a class, leading a group, and quietly needing help with your own marriage at the same time is an ordinary situation, and it should not require a public decision to get that help.

What this is not: hiding. Getting help is not something to be ashamed of, and we would say the same thing from a stage. It is simply that the choice of who knows should belong to the two of you and nobody else.

The tradeoff is real and we will not skip past it. No insurance also means no reimbursement. If cost is the deciding factor and your plan covers therapy, therapy may be the better call, and we would rather tell you that than talk you into something.

What It Costs

Pricing depends on which format fits. We walk you through the actual numbers on the consultation, before you have committed to anything, and the figures for every format are written out rather than saved for a phone call.

See what marriage counseling costs in Gilbert

Worth asking anywhere you call: how long is a session, do both spouses attend, what happens between sessions, and what does the whole thing cost from start to finish. If a practice will not answer those four questions on a first call, that tells you something.

If Your Spouse Isn't Sure About This

This is the most common thing we hear, and it is usually a wife who has been carrying the weight of trying for a long while before she picked up the phone.

Most people who refuse counseling are refusing a picture in their head. Sitting on a couch being analyzed, while their spouse nods along and the counselor quietly takes a side. That picture is fair to refuse. I would refuse it too.

Coaching does not look like that. You both learn the same process. You both practice it. You both get the same homework. Nobody is the patient and nobody is on trial. And because the first sessions can happen from your own house, a spouse who is not ready to be seen walking into an office anywhere can still say yes to a conversation, which is often the entire hurdle.

That said, if your spouse will not participate at all, we do not have something for you alone. Every service we run has both partners in the room. What I would tell you is this: keep taking baby steps toward your spouse, keep your own side of the street clean, and there's always, always hope.

When This Isn't the Right Next Step

We would rather tell you on a free call than three sessions in.

  • When there is violence, intimidation, or fear for safety at home. Safety comes before communication skills, every time.
  • When addiction is active and untreated. The addiction needs its own care first, and we will help you find it.
  • When a mental health condition needs clinical evaluation. That is a therapist's work, not ours.
  • When an affair is still happening, or was discovered days ago and everything is still raw.
  • When one partner will not participate.

If there is violence or fear in your home, the National Domestic Violence Hotline has guidance written specifically about couples work and abuse, and it is worth reading before you decide anything. If someone is in crisis or thinking about self-harm, call or text 988.

None of that means the marriage is over. It means the order matters. In most of these situations we will point you toward a licensed therapist or the right kind of support, and the door here stays open for later.

For Pastors and Church Leaders

If you lead a church in Gilbert and you have a couple in front of you who needs more than you have hours for, we would be glad to be a place you can send them. You do not need a formal arrangement with us to make a referral, and there is no cost to the couple for the first conversation.

What we will do is give them an honest read. If coaching fits, we will tell them. If they need licensed clinical care, we will tell them that instead and help them find it, and we will say it in a way that does not make you look like you sent them to the wrong place.

One practical note, since it comes up: because sessions can be online, a couple in your congregation can start without a standing weeknight appointment somewhere across town, and without the whole thing becoming a logistics problem on top of a marriage problem.

If you would like to talk before you send anyone, call the office at (623) 294-8810.

Where We Meet

Where We Meet in Gilbert

We do not keep an office in Gilbert. Sessions happen online, or in person at our Chandler office, and about three in four couples from Gilbert choose online.

That is not the budget version, and it is worth explaining why so many pick it. The twelve-week format asks for the same evening every week for three months. A Gilbert weeknight already has a lot in it. Taking the drive off both ends is frequently the difference between a couple who finishes the twelve weeks and a couple who quits in week five with good intentions.

If you would rather be in the room, you are welcome at the Chandler office, and plenty of couples do a mix, coming in when the topic is heavy and meeting by video when the week is full. Workshops and two-day intensives run in person at Chandler only.

Questions Couples Ask

What makes this Christian marriage counseling and not just marriage counseling?

The tools are the same. We do not run a separate program for Christian couples, because the Communication Loop works the way it works regardless of what you believe. What is different is that you do not have to translate. Covenant, submission, sacrifice, and forgiveness are normal vocabulary here rather than a detour. We start from the conviction that your marriage is worth saving and that God restores things. And we can pray with you, or help you learn to pray together, if that is something you want.

Do we have to drive to Chandler, or can we do this from Gilbert?

You can do all of it from home. We do not keep an office in Gilbert, so sessions happen online or in person at our Chandler office, and about three in four Gilbert couples choose online. For the twelve-week format that is usually the practical call, because taking the drive off both ends is what makes the same weeknight workable for three months straight. If you would rather be in the room, the Chandler office is open to you, and plenty of couples mix the two.

Do you work with couples who aren't Christian?

Yes, and we do it often. Hope Relentless works with Christian and non-Christian couples, and the coaching itself does not change. If you would rather do this work without the religious framing, that is a normal request and it will not get you a lesser version of anything.

Are you licensed therapists?

No. Hope Relentless is a coaching practice. We do not diagnose, we do not treat mental health conditions, and we do not provide therapy. Sarah-Gayle holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and works here as a coach rather than a clinician, and Chad is an ordained minister. If your situation calls for licensed clinical care, we will tell you and help you find it.

Does insurance cover Christian marriage coaching?

No, and we do not submit anything to insurers. Coaching is private pay only. There is no diagnosis, no billing code, and no claim, which means nothing about your marriage becomes part of a medical record. For a lot of couples that privacy is the main reason they choose coaching. The tradeoff is real though: no insurance also means no reimbursement, so if cost is the deciding factor and your plan covers therapy, therapy may be the better call.

Will you use scripture in our sessions?

As much or as little as you want. Some couples want scripture woven through every session. Others want a Christian coach and otherwise practical work. We will ask you on the consultation and you can change your mind later. What we will not do is hand you a verse instead of a tool.

My spouse won't go to counseling. Would they do this?

Often, yes. Most people who refuse counseling are refusing a picture in their head: sitting on a couch being analyzed while their spouse nods along. Coaching is teaching. You both learn the same process, you both practice it, you both get the same homework, and nobody is the patient. It also helps that you can start from your own house rather than walking into an office, which for a hesitant spouse is frequently the whole hurdle. That said, if your spouse will not participate at all, we do not have something for you alone, because every service we run has both partners in the room.

Do we have to attend a particular church?

No. We work with couples from all kinds of churches across Gilbert and the East Valley, and with couples who are not currently in one. We are not going to quiz you about where you attend or what you believe about secondary issues. If your pastor referred you here, that is welcome, and it is not required.

Will anyone find out we're doing this?

Not from us. Coaching is private pay, so there is no diagnosis, no billing code, and no claim submitted to an insurer, which means nothing about your marriage enters a medical record. Sessions happen online or at our Chandler office. Who you tell is entirely your decision, and it stays that way.

When would you tell us coaching is not right for us?

When there is violence, intimidation, or fear for safety at home. When addiction is active and untreated. When a mental health condition needs clinical evaluation first. When one partner will not participate. And when an affair is still happening or was discovered days ago and everything is still raw. None of that means the marriage is over. It means the order matters, and we would rather tell you that on a free call than three sessions in.

What is the next step?

Schedule a consultation. It is 30 minutes, no cost and no obligation, and nobody signs anything on it. We ask what has been going on, you ask us anything, and we give you an honest read on whether coaching fits and what we would put you in. You can book online any time, or call (623) 294-8810 if you would rather talk to a person first.
