Couples Counseling That Changes How You Talk

Conversations that finish. Disagreements that end in a decision you both own. A way to bring up the hard thing without bracing for impact. That is what couples counseling here builds, and it builds it with the two of you in the room: twelve weeks, one coach.

What Changes Between You

Short answer: couples counseling here is twelve weeks of learning one repeatable way to have hard conversations, then using it on your real issues with a coach in the room.

The goal is not a calmer session. It is a different kitchen table on a Wednesday night, three months from now.

Conversations that finish

Topics stop dying halfway. You learn a four-step process that carries a hard conversation from the first sentence to an actual decision, so nothing gets dropped and picked up again at midnight.

A shorter way back

Every couple argues. What changes is how long repair takes. You learn to reconnect after a fight on purpose, instead of waiting for the tension to wear off.

Decisions you both own

An agreement you both chose is different from one you stopped fighting about because you were tired. You learn to land decisions that both of you still stand behind on Friday.

Hard things raised early

You learn to bring up the uncomfortable topic yourself, calmly, before it hardens into resentment. That one skill changes the climate of a home.

The shift we are after: from managing each other to working the problem together.

What Couples Say

Real reviews, from real couples, after working with us.

Couples Counseling Here Is Coaching

Chad and Sarah-Gayle are coaches, not licensed therapists. We teach you tools and walk you through using them. We do not diagnose, we do not treat mental health conditions, and there is no clinical record. Payment is private, with no insurance involved. That keeps the work practical and the goal clear: you leave able to do this without us.

A strong fit

  • You feel more like roommates than partners.
  • Conversations that start calm end sideways.
  • You are dating, engaged or married and want skills before problems stack up.
  • You want practical tools, not a place to vent.

Something else comes first

  • Violence, or fear for your safety
  • Active addiction without treatment
  • A mental health need that calls for clinical care
  • A partner who refuses to take part

Couples only. Both partners attend every session. We do not offer individual sessions, and we do not provide therapy or trauma treatment.

How the 12-Week Couples Reset Works

Short answer: twelve weekly 55-minute sessions, both partners, the same coach every week. Ground first, tools second, real issues third.

You each see your own part

Both of you complete a relationship assessment before session one. Your coach uses it to show each of you your own patterns and the mindsets behind them. Each of you looks at yourself before anyone looks at the other.

The shift: the conversation stops feeling like a trial.

You learn the loop and use it on real issues

The Communication Loop is a four-step process for the conversations that go wrong. You learn it, then you use it live, on your actual issues, with your coach steering.

1

Proactive Start

Open the conversation on purpose, early and calm, instead of waiting for it to blow up.

2

Validating Response

Show your partner you heard them before you answer.

3

Solution-Based Agreement

Agree together on where you are headed.

4

Discuss the Details

Work out the specifics once the direction is settled.

Proactive Start → Validating Response → Solution-Based Agreement → Discuss the Details ↺

Same four steps for every topic, until they run on their own.

The shift: you feel heard again.

You run it without us

You learn to repair after a fight, set up a hard conversation with a Game Plan before it starts, and rebuild connection on purpose. You finish able to recover on your own.

The shift: you recover faster after conflict, with no coach in the room.

Twelve weeks gives a new habit time to survive a bad week. It also ends, so you can see the finish line from day one.

Which format fits

Three Ways to Start

Most couples begin with the twelve-week program. If your calendar or your comfort level points somewhere else, there are two other doors.

1

The 12-Week Couples Reset

Twelve weekly sessions, both partners, one coach. The full method, practiced on your real issues.

2

A two-day intensive

The same work compressed into two days, with both coaches in the room. For couples whose calendar will not hold twelve weeks. See the marriage intensive.

3

A two-hour workshop

One topic, one tool, in a room of couples. Nothing is shared unless you choose to share it. See the couples workshop.

When One Partner Hesitates

Hesitant and unwilling are different. Hesitant means worried about being blamed, worried about cost, worried it will not work. Those worries are normal, and the consultation call answers them.

Both of you are in the room for every session. No private side conversations. No ambushes. Send your partner the consultation link and let them ask their own questions. It is thirty minutes and it commits you to nothing.

Unwilling means a flat refusal to take part. If that is where you are, this is not the right time for joint coaching.

What Couples Counseling Costs

The program is priced as a whole, not as a meter running by the session. You know the total before you start and you know when it ends. A payment plan is available. Bringing both coaches into the room costs more, and most couples do not need it. Full numbers live on our pricing page.

No insurance also means no reimbursement. If cost is the deciding factor and your plan covers therapy, therapy may genuinely be the better call.

Questions to ask before you book with anyone

  • Do both partners attend every session, or does it turn into two private sessions?
  • Are you told how many sessions it takes and when it ends?
  • Do you leave with tools you can use on your own?
  • Do you work with the same person every week?
  • Is the first conversation free, and do you get a straight answer on fit?

We answer yes to all five. Hold every provider to the same list.

When This Is Not the Right Next Step

Joint sessions are the wrong tool when there is violence or fear for anyone's safety, active addiction without treatment, a mental health condition that needs clinical care, a partner who will not take part, or an urgent crisis.

If you are afraid of your partner, read the National Domestic Violence Hotline's guidance on couples counseling and abuse. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911. For emotional crisis, call or text 988.

Online or In Person: Same Program

Meet over Zoom, meet in person at our office, or mix both. The material is identical and so is your coach. Online partners can join from different locations, which helps when one of you travels or works away.

Local couples can see how this runs near home on our pages for couples counseling in Gilbert, AZ and couples counseling in Chandler, AZ.

Who You'll Work With

Most couples work with one coach, either Chad or Sarah-Gayle, the same one every week. Working with both together is an option, not the default.

Chad Galbreath

Ordained Minister

A former executive pastor of about ten years. Chad coaches couples through the communication method and has been married since 2005.

Sarah-Gayle Galbreath

M.A. in Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy emphasis, Azusa Pacific University

Sarah-Gayle brings her clinical training into the coaching room. She works here as a coach, not as a clinician.

Chad and Sarah-Gayle are coaches, not licensed therapists. Hope Relentless provides coaching and educational resources, not a substitute for professional counseling or therapy.

Couples Counseling Questions, Answered

What is couples counseling?

Couples counseling is structured time with a trained guide where two partners work on how they communicate, handle conflict and reconnect. At Hope Relentless it is coaching. Both of you attend every session, one coach leads, and you learn a specific method for hard conversations.

How does couples counseling work?

You start with a free 30-minute consultation, then you each complete a relationship assessment. From there you meet weekly for 55 minutes with the same coach for twelve weeks. The first sessions show you your own patterns. Later sessions teach a four-step communication process and have you use it on real issues. Between sessions you get date-night ideas, questions to talk through and text encouragement.

Does couples counseling actually work?

It works when both partners use the tools between sessions. We teach a specific method and have you practice it in the room, so you leave with a skill instead of a feeling. We do not promise outcomes, because the work belongs to the two of you. Couples who attend, practice and stay in the process change the pattern.

How do we know if we need couples counseling?

If the same argument keeps returning, one of you shuts down while the other pushes, or you feel like roommates, talking harder has stopped helping. Waiting does not shrink the problem. Dating and engaged couples use it too, to build skills before the stress arrives.

What is the difference between couples counseling and marriage counseling?

The skills are the same. Couples counseling is the broader term and covers dating, engaged and married partners. Marriage counseling speaks to spouses. If you are married, our marriage counseling page covers the same work from that angle.

How do I ask my partner to go to couples counseling?

Pick a calm moment, not the middle of a fight. Lead with what you want for the two of you, not a list of what they did wrong. Try: "I want us to learn how to talk about the hard things." Then offer a small first step, a free 30-minute consultation where they can ask their own questions. Nothing is committed on that call.

Can we do couples counseling online?

Yes. Sessions run over Zoom with the same material and the same coach as in person. Each of you can join from a different location, which helps when one partner travels or works away. Read more on our online marriage counseling page.

How much does couples counseling cost, and does insurance cover it?

We price the 12-Week Couples Reset as a complete program, so you know the total before you begin. A payment plan is available, and working with both coaches costs more than working with one. Hope Relentless is coaching, so we do not bill insurance. Current numbers live on one page, our pricing page.

Is couples counseling here religious?

Couples of faith and couples with no faith both work with us. You decide how much spiritual content is in the room, including none. If you want faith at the center, Christian marriage counseling is its own program.
