Marriage Counselor Near Chandler Preparatory Academy

Conversations where you each feel heard before anyone starts fixing. A listening skill that works in the carpool line and at the kitchen table. A marriage that has room for the two of you while school-age kids fill the calendar. We coach you together, about nine minutes from Chandler Preparatory Academy, or online.

30 minutes, free, no obligation. Both of you on the call.

Short answer: our office is at 3075 W Ray Rd #200 in Chandler, at Loop 101 and Ray Road. From Chandler Preparatory Academy on Alma School Road it's about nine minutes. We coach couples together, and it starts with a free 30-minute consultation.

School-age years run on logistics. Pickup, homework, practices, forms, dinner. Most of what the two of you say to each other in a day is an exchange of information.

When something real does come up, it often gets answered with a solution before it's been heard. One of you says, "I'm exhausted." The other says, "Then let's cut back on activities." Neither of those is wrong. The first person just doesn't feel heard.

The goal of listening isn't to agree or to fix. It's for your spouse to feel heard. Understanding and agreement come after.

The Validating Response: Listen to Connect, Not Correct

This is the second step of the Communication Loop. It belongs to the listener, and it has three parts.

1

Listen to understand

Phones down, eyes up, no interrupting and no hijacking. One topic at a time, like a relay baton. If you both talk at once, nobody feels heard.

2

Reflect back

"What I hear you saying is ___. Is that right?" Close the gap between what was said and what you heard, or you're playing telephone.

3

Confirm and validate

"That sounds really hard. Thank you for telling me." Validation isn't agreement. It's acknowledging what your spouse felt and shared.

4

Offer support, if they want it

"Is there anything I can do to help?" Ask. Don't assume the answer is a fix.

It feels slow at first. That slowness is the point. You can win the argument and lose the connection, and this step protects the connection.

What This Looks Like With Us

Practiced in the room

You don't just hear about listening. You do it, with both of you in the room and a coach guiding the reps.

Both of you, every time

We don't offer individual sessions. Each of you owns your own side, and both of you grow at the same time. Nobody is the project.

Coached by someone who's been there

You'll work with Sarah-Gayle or me, matched on your consultation. Sarah-Gayle holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific, and works here as a coach, not a clinician. I'm an ordained minister. We've been married more than twenty years and have coached thousands of couples.

Coaching, not therapy. We don't diagnose, we don't treat mental health conditions, and we don't bill insurance. Both partners come to every session, and we don't offer individual work. If what you need is licensed clinical care, we'll tell you and help you find it.

Questions Couples Ask

How far is your office from Chandler Preparatory Academy?

About nine minutes by car, roughly 3.5 miles, at typical traffic. Our office is at 3075 W Ray Rd #200. We also meet online.

Why not just say what I think when my spouse is upset?

Because being heard comes first. A fix offered before your spouse feels heard sounds like dismissal, even when it's a good fix. Listen, reflect back, validate. Your ideas land far better afterward.

What if I can't agree with what my spouse is saying?

You don't have to. Validation isn't agreement. You're acknowledging what they felt and shared. Agreement, or a solution, comes in the next step of the Loop, once you both feel heard.

Be Heard, and Hear Each Other
